I started using Lavanila’s The Healthy Deodorant in Vanilla Lemon about 3 months ago. My first impression was extremely positive. It made my armpits smell great and they didn’t really sweat. Plus my armpit skin became really soft from the moisturization of the deodorant. I loved it so much I got a mini size in Pure Vanilla for travel.

It has a unique consistency. It comes in a solid stick form but when applied to the skin it melts and becomes more of a liquid consistency. But after about a minute or so it changes to a dry finish. It’s actually quite refreshing.

Also, the scents are great. When first applied it makes my armpits smell great – to the point where it smells like I’m wearing a light perfume. And since I can’t wear most perfumes because of my allergies, this is great. They also have a fragrance-free version for those who don’t want a scent.

After about 3 weeks after I started to use it, I noticed I started sweating more. I didn’t really mind it since the product is a deodorant and not an anti-perspirant, so I knew it wasn’t supposed to stop sweating. But then my armpit odour came back and the deodorant needed to be re-applied once or twice during the day to keep my odour down. The funny thing is, this only really happens for the lemon scented one, not the vanilla one. And I remember watching a review from Logical Harmony where she said that each scent is a hit and miss for her and you have to find the one that suits you. So I’m going to give the same recommendation as her – try out the mini sizes and find out which one works best for your body.

The stick itself lasts quite a long time. I’ve been using it for 3 months and will probably last me another 2-3 months.

The deodorant comes in a twist-up container, like typical deodorants. The lid is a screw-top lid, probably to keep it more airtight. The container itself is a cylinder and quite large, so the travel-size version is great to keep in your purse or for travelling.

What’s great about this deodorant is it has a lot of natural ingredients and omits harsh chemicals. It does not contain aluminum, parabens, petrochemicals, phalates, mineral oils, sulfate or synthetic dyes. It also has a essential oils, which make your skin super smooth.

The cost is my major issue with this product. It’s quite expensive at $17 CAD, but for what it is – cruelty-free, natural and moisturizing – I’m willing to pay that price. But I know that a lot of people can’t afford that so it’s a shame it can’t be less. However, the mini size is $11 CAD, so you could get this instead.

It’s only available in Sephora in Canada, and they don’t carry the entire line.

I really like this deodorant. The vanilla scent works better for me than the lemon one and I’ll be repurchasing it when my large lemon one is done.

  1. This deodorant sounds fantastic! I would absolutely love to try it out. But for us Dutch people, it has to come from far, so it would be very expensive to get it here :(
